Jim Kuhlman chaired the Art Department at Dulaney High School from 1996 until his retirement in 2016, having taught art in the public schools for 42 years. He has also taught part time in the Graduate School of Johns Hopkins University.

Jim and his two children, Scott and Shelby, are residents of Fallston, Maryland. A longtime inspiration to his work, his wife Julie recently passed away after 24 years of marriage. She will forever be intertwined in his art and in their lives.

His successes have earned him numerous awards in local, statewide and international competitions. He is a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society.

His drawings have appeared in Lacrosse Magazine, Swimming World Magazine and Draw Magazine. In addition, his drawings are in the permanent collection of Mr. and Mrs. Cal Ripken, Jr., the St. Paul’s School and the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. His paintings are in permanent collections throughout the United States, England and Bermuda.

In the summer of 2011, the Masterworks Collection requested a donation of an original watercolor from Jim, and “Wish” was accepted into the permanent collection. Plans were started for a one man show and “Breathing” opened on August 9th, 2013, with 31 original watercolors on exhibit.

He continues to visit Bermuda often, by plane and by brush.
