This painting broke down into several smaller paintings ranging from the wet-on-wet houses in the background to the quite abstract nature of the surface reflections and, finally, the elephant trunk-like bark of the palm trees.   It recalls a spot where I photographed Julie during our first visit in 1998, in front of the then much shorter leaning palm at the forefront.   Although countless others have no doubt seized on the same tree for a shot, she will always occupy that spot…as well as my heart.
