About The Third Year
In 1970, 55 years ago, I created my first hand drawn Christmas card and have kept up the tradition ever since. Initially, the covers found inspiration in the idyllic childhood my parents provided us up in NY. As time passed, my own growing family, first as a couple with Julie and little by little, with Scottie and Shelby, stirred my awareness of the blessings we all shared. The drawing on each year’s card became a pictorial diary and followed us through the years together. Each still rekindles a warmth as I look back over them.
And I do, each Christmas Eve.
In the middle of 2022, my first grandchild, Riley, brought potential to a whole new generation of ideas as she graced the cover the following year. Born at the very start of 2024, my first grandson, FJ, cemented his place on that year’s cover and, before that year was up, a second grandson (perhaps expecting a Hallowe’en Edition?) entered our world…
And so, Gavin gets this year’s cover! Not really the “Third Year of Christmas” but close enough…and The Best Gifts from my True Loves, Scottie and Bekah, Shelby and Kent, indeed.
You can keep your French Hens. Merry Christmas.
