About The Vigil

This statue of St. Ignatius Loyola has been the heart of Loyola Blakefield for decades, hidden in the grove in front of Xavier Hall. As I walked around it, taking photos from every angle, I was most taken in by this view, with its strong shadows and a perspective that seemed to capture every aspect of the story. As a painter, I was most intrigued by this new palette of the colors in the stone as they contrasted with the greens of the foliage and the softness of the sky. This original was purchased at the 2008 Blue and Gold Auction to benefit Loyola Blakefield and subsequently presented as a gift to its departing Head of Upper School.

This original watercolor painting is being considered for prints. If you have an interest in owning a print of this watercolor, please contact me.
