Playing around with allowing design aspects a greater role in what would otherwise be a more traditional landscape, this watercolor had such strong horizontal (or near horizontal) leads in the striking shadows on the sunlit beam that I knew I wanted to do something with them. Then I became aware of the vertical pushes of the characteristic Bermudian limestone fence posts, and gradually the idea of extending and interweaving both came to mind. Within each resulting square, I overlapped a darker value of each pigment…just for the pure joy of design.
